About Suniti Khastgir
I am a M. Sc from Kolkata University and an MBA from Edinburgh University, UK, with twenty-three years of corporate career with ITC, Taj Group of Hotels, Tata Steel and Tata Medical Centre. Currently apart from being a Leadership Coach and management consultant, I am a freelance artist pursuing my passion in art. My urge to get the freedom to pursue all my passions led me from being a Corporate to an Freelancer be it Artist, Curator, Mentoring and Art Therapy working towards creating and promoting emerging artist. I am also working towards empowering the specially abled through art and crafts and I am part of the Crafts Council of West Bengal.
I started painting at the age of 49. Since 2012 I have been a freelance artist and has art works in India, UK, US, Canada, Indonesia by individual buyers.
I have exhibited in India, Hungary and Germany. I have participated in International art Camp and Land Art. I am the founding member of ArtKHASTGIR/ Art@SFactor for creating and promoting artists and of ArtKHASTGIR/ Art@SFactor’s HeART project – fund raising for charities while promoting emerging artists. I have done my Sotheby’s curatorial Course. I also do large format commission works. I work will all media and my work is semi realistic form and get inspiration from my spiritual pursuits, life experiences and travels. I am also working towards promoting art as therapy and work life balance.
My search for the artist in me began with a search for my own true self in which I have sought to express my creative sense. Over the years I began to realize that my life was being lived to meet the expectations of others and not for me or any greater purpose. In my life as a busy corporate professional neither did I find time for myself nor did I find a means of creative expression. My life was, like many others in this city, typical, ordinary, a routine of mundane tasks and jobs with the purpose of making a living. I was privileged as a child to have been brought up in a loving close-knit family and having received a good education but equally I had to conform to the requirements of contemporary society. I was a good daughter but found myself living under the weight if societal expectations of appropriateness and conformism. I did conform well too; with three masters degrees including a MBA from UK, employment in blue chip corporate organizations, travel across the globe, high society events and parties, luxury holidays and lifestyle. I was becoming a piece of machinery, a prisoner of our society. However, I longed for a sense of purpose, identity and belonging, and can only describe myself as feeling increasingly like a homeless, drenched, tired lost bird tossed around in the thunderstorm of life!
In this serendipitous journey I found a pencil, a bit of canvas and a teacher and a dream …this was my beginning, my search for my inner self through an expression. Suddenly the three-year-old child who used her mother’s lipsticks to draw on the floor surfaced from the ravines of societal stratus of conformism…this was my new start, my search for who I really am through my art.
To me art is a higher form of human expression, something that makes us truly human and then takes us beyond. As Richard Bach wrote through the words of Jonathan Livingston Seagull, “You have the freedom to be yourself, your true self, here and now, and nothing can stand in your way”.
Painting gave me the freedom to be myself. I found echoes of my own life in his words “instead of our drab slogging forth and back to the fishing boats, there’s reason to live! We can lift ourselves out of ignorance, we can find ourselves as creatures of excellence and intelligence and skill. We can learn to be free! We can learn to fly!”
Painting made me learn to fly, by lifting me up from the mundane and providing me with a feeling of belonging, made me feel that that I have a family of my own to talk to and they are none other than my colours, my canvases, my brushes, my paints and over and above, my thoughts and feelings.
Being human is to me to be creative, individual and unique, and when I pick up my brushes I see and feel nothing else but my feelings and thoughts somehow expressing themselves as colours on my canvas.
On another level, painting makes me find happiness and peace. What leads me and still drives me to art is meditative concentration, solitude and most importantly the belief in myself. My inspiration is my understanding of life and society and my spiritual journey. This gives me the vision to see beyond the obvious into deep within in detached way. This form of vision is manifested in the canvas My art is my meditation, arousing the divinity within. Though I paint the picture in my mind, when I am in front of the canvas, the canvas and I become one and I am just the instrument as if some greater power instructs me to create and the paint, canvas and me move under this unseen power and the painting emerges. My body does not matter, it becomes an out of body experience, my body, my hands don’t paint, my soul paints. This becomes the highest form of prayer and honouring the Creator as art is creation.

Manish Khattry
The Archivist of Eternity
Email : manishkhattry@gmail.com
Phone : +91 9119 822 228
About Manish Khattry
To speak of Kashi is to speak of a paradox, a city both fiercely grounded in the temporal and yet, unmistakably, a gateway to the eternal. Capturing this duality requires an artist who is part poet, part historian, and part devotee. Manish Khattry, born in 1973, is that rare alchemist, whose lens doesn’t just see Kashi; it feels, interprets, and venerates it.
His journey into the heart of light and form began with an academic rigor that foreshadowed his future mastery. A prodigious talent, he earned a Master of Applied Arts from Faculty of Visual Arts, Banaras Hindu University; graduating with a Gold Medal; an early testament to his profound understanding of artistic principles. This scholarly foundation is the invisible architecture upon which his intuitive art is built, giving his work a compositional depth and a masterful command over light that few can rival.
For over two decades, Manish has engaged in one of the most profound visual dialogues ever conducted with the city of Kashi. This is not a fleeting fascination but a lifelong commitment, a pilgrimage with a camera. With a dedication that borders on the sacred, he has amassed an archive of over one million photographs, creating a visual corpus that is as monumental as the city itself. This staggering collection forms the bedrock of his pioneering concept ~ the creation of a ‘Pictorial History’ for a city that is known as ‘older than history’.
Through this lens, he is not merely taking pictures; he is writing a visual epic, volume by volume. His ambitious series of pictorial books aims to document every facet of Kashi’s living heritage. With 28 books already published and many more in progress, he is single-handedly building a library of light and memory, ensuring that the soul of this ancient city is preserved for generations to come. Each book is a chapter in this endless story, a testament to his dual role as an artist and an archivist.
His achievements and exhibitions, both national and international, are affirmations of this unique visual language he has pioneered. Yet, his true legacy lies in this immense, ongoing project. This volume is a curated glimpse into that grander vision, a vision that began with a gold-medalist scholar and has blossomed into the life’s work of the visual custodian of India’s spiritual capital. In every frame, Manish Khattry doesn’t just capture a moment; he salvages a fragment of eternity, offering a piece of Kashi’s immortal soul.
